Omar Medrano

Born in Quito in 1968, since his childhood Omar Medrano used to draw cartoon and comics characters he saw in the magazines his father gave him, like Batman, Superman, Condorito, Kaliman, Archie, Turok, Flash, Green Lantern, etc. This allowed him to discover the colors and acquire objectivity of reality.

When he was in high school he was the one who sketched and painted posters and banners for the events organized by his peers. He also used to reproduce covers of rock albums for his friends.

In an autodidact way he devoted himself to acrylic paint on canvas. The artist tells that at the beginning he used to venture when mixing colors and images on the canvas, wood or cardboard.

Omar Medrano studied sociology at university, something he complemented with art and painting, achieving new pictorial proposals for the viewer.

“I keep a creative duality between my inner spiritual richness and the real external environment of the urban social sphere, I adapt this into a ludic pictorial and diverse language for the viewer,” said Medrano about his art

He confesses that the different life experiences in conjunction with the academic ones “are materialized in colorful and visual discourses, and interlaced displays, seeking a justification for their existence when being completely exposed to the universality.”

Omar Medrano has conducted 31 solo exhibitions and 29 group exhibitions in the main cities of Ecuador and abroad. Sydney, Caracas, Santiago, Antwerp, Brussels, New York and New Jersey have witnessed his art.
