The opening and award ceremony of the Fifth International Biennial Exhibition of Art “Alvaro Noboa” whose theme was: “A tribute to Women,” was held Thursday night April 28.
More than 200 works from 21 countries (Asia, Europe and Latin America) entered the competition.
Founder of the museum Alvaro Noboa gave a heartfelt speech and then awarded the prizes to the winners of the contest, as well as several honorable mentions.
“After ten years of the foundation of the Luis A. Noboa Naranjo Museum, named in honor of my father, today we have succeeded to commemorate the date of his passing -April 28th- and to organize the Fifth International Biennial Exhibition of Art “Alvaro Noboa.” In this impressive call of both audiences and artists, 200 artists from all over the world have participated. From the Asian continent they have come from India, Azerbaijan and Turkey; from the European continent: Germany, Portugal, Czech Republic, Ukraine, Belgium, France and Spain; From Latin America: Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala and Peru; and from many states in the United States.”
Winners:
Ecuadorian Jimmy Lara won the first place, whose prize was $ 10,000, with his work “Al ritmo de la historia”; the second place ($ 6,000) was for Cuban Orlando Barroso Gonzalez with his untitled work.
Honorable Mentions
Fidel Castro Sinca, from Bolivia, with “Mujer plegaria.”
Oliver Rivera Lopez, from Spain, with his untitled work.
Carlos Chavez Alvarado, from Peru, with “Noli Me Tangere II.”
Juan Carlos Zeballos, from Peru, with “Womb for rent.”
Juan Caguana Reino, from Ecuador, with “granny’s secret.”
Luis Quinde Tenecela, from Ecuador, with “AMWAE Invaders (Tears of almost extinct ethnic groups).”
Pedro Gavilanes Sellan, from Ecuador, with “Skylight.”
Ecuadorian Philanthropist Alvaro Noboa, on behalf of Luis Noboa Naranjo Museum, awarded an eighth Honorable Mention to Ecuadorian artist Cristina Fiallos Diaz, for her work “Pilar.”
Special mention
A Special Mention was also awarded to Dr Annabella Azín de Noboa, “who is the woman of the year and is assisting the earthquake victims with her medical brigades in the province of Los Rios and other provinces, and who will continue long time with this work,” said Noboa.

Oils, acrylics, mixed, and other techniques, were used in the works that take part of an exhibition that opens today at the Luis A. Noboa Naranjo Museum. These proposals were admitted to the International Painting Biennial of Guayaquil, organized by this institution.
This year _ the axis of the competition has focused on paying a tribute to woman, although the subject was free. “Most artists have poured into the woman theme, there are many abstract, realism, surrealist, magical realism wotks, but they all speak of the woman,” says Pablo Martinez, director of the museum.
It explains that the aim of this competition, in its fifth edition, is “to promote and disseminate” the work of young artists, especially of the most recent.
A total of 200 works from 21 countries (Asia, Europe and Latin America) entered this contest. Only 99 are part of the exhibition that will remain open until May 28.
The name of the winners of the first and second place ($ 10,000 and $ 5,000) will be announced at 19:00 tonight, in addition seven honorable mentions.
International nominees are: Fidel Castro Sinca with Mujer plegaria (Bolivia); Carlos Chavez Alvarado with Noli Me Tangere II (Peru); Oliver Lopez Rivera (Spain); Orlando Barroso González (Cuba); and Juan Carlos Zeballos with Womb for rent (Peru).
Among the Ecuadorian nominees are: Juan Caguana with Granny’s secret; Luis Quinde Tenecela with Amwae invaders (Tears of almost extinct ethnic groups); Jimmy Lara Gutierrez with Rhythm of history and Pedro Gavilanes Sellan with Skylight.
The opening ceremony will be held tonight at 20:00 PM.

Opening of the Chromatic Exhibition 2016 of the LEXA Technological Institute
The opening of the exhibition of the LEXA Technological Institute called Chromatic was held Wednesday nigh, February 17. This brought together the photographic works of the students of the photography and visual culture careers.
Students of the first, second, third and fifth cycle displayed their best photographic works in various artistic genres. They also received a diploma for their participation.
The exhibition will be open until February 18 at the Luis Noboa Naranjo Museum.
